Argentina is the most important wine producing country in South America. Mendoza, located on the western strip of the country bordering the foothills of the Andes, is by far Argentina's biggest and most important province, accounting for over 70 per cent of all wine production. Malbec is the most successful grape variety, while decent Cabernet Sauvignon exists, as does Syrah, Bonardo, Tempranillo and Sangiovese. Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc are the most popular whites.
